Where is Kirkland Creek Campground & Cabins?

The campground is located in Western North Carolina one hour west of Asheville off of US Hwy 74. At a cool, 2,300 elevation, it is just 4.5 miles from downtown Bryson City, NC and 11 miles from downtown Cherokee.

Coming to Kirkland Creek Campground from the East (Dillsboro & Sylva)

  • From 74, take exit #69 (Bryson City – Hyatt Creek Rd.)
    Go to stop sign, turn right.
  • Make immediate left onto Walker Woody Road (Old Bryson City Road)
  • Go about 1.3 miles to stop sign.
  • Turn left onto Governor’s Island Road (Route 19).
  • Go about a half mile. Make first left onto Shepherd’s Creek Road.
  • Stay on Shepherd’s Creek another half-mile till you go under the overpass.
  • Take next right (Kirklands Creek Road).
  • Stay on this road about 2 miles (road will turn to gravel).
  • 500 yards on gravel road. The Campground is on the left.
  • For larger trailers – you may choose to pass the Campground, go 2/10ths of a mile to the first house on the left and then back into the gravel school bus turnaround across the road. This will give you more turning leverage crossing the Campground bridge from the opposite direction.

Coming to Kirkland Creek Campground from the West (Nantahala & Andrews)

  • From Hwy 74, take exit #67 (Bryson City – Veteran’s Blvd.) Turn left at stop sign.
  • Go to first traffic light; turn right onto Main Street (Hwy 19).
  • Continue on Main Street 1.7 miles.
  • Just after BJ’s Quick Stop, turn right on Shepherd’s Creek Road.
    Stay on Shepherd’s Creek another half-mile till you go under the overpass.
  • Take next right (Kirklands Creek Road).
  • Stay on this road about 2 miles (road will turn to gravel).
