The area is anchored by the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, with entrances just minutes away in Bryson City and Cherokee, and the Nantahala Gorge with its zip lines and white water rafting.

In Bryson City, the Great Smoky Mountains Railroad carries upwards of 200,000 riders on its scenic excursions and special events each year. And in nearby Cherokee, cultural attractions like the Oconaluftee Indian Village and the outdoor pageant Unto These Hills entertain thousands each summer.
